Timbol’s work with For The Need and Youth Empowerment Summit featured on KTLA News

(CLAIR) – Imagine spending your Saturday building your own rocket, from scratch, alongside an actual NASA astronaut.

This awesome event wasn’t just for fun. It was about proving to these kids – who have faced hardships that no one should have to – that they can shoot for the stars. And leading the charge was FTN’s inspiring executive director, Dorina Timbol.

Running a non-profit organization that aids homeless and struggling teens, Dorina is a real-life community superhero. She has turned her rough childhood experiences – growing up in an abusive household and landing in foster care – into a powerful force for change.

“Everyone’s got a story, a journey,” Dorina says. She’s on a mission to show these kids that with the right guidance, support, and skills, they can go from feeling hopeless to being the ones who change the world.

One of the teens, 16-year-old Annabelle Brockman, describes Dorina’s organization as a safety net. “She’s there, right there, if you’re worried,” Annabelle says. It’s clear that this place is more than just a program; it’s a family.

Dorina’s friend and colleague, Tim Gray, thinks she’s pretty remarkable. He’s seen the difference she’s made in high school students who have moved on to college and careers.

But Dorina’s just doing what she feels passionate about. “I don’t see myself as remarkable,” she says. “I’m just a woman who’s determined to use everything I’ve learned to give back and help others.”

“Here’s to future astronauts, tech wizards, world leaders – whatever they dream to be.” She said.

With the right support, they’re learning they can reach for the stars – and grab them.
