For the Need & WM Host “Animal Day: Creating Connections” for families in need

(P.Choudhary) – As the second Bow & Arrow Mentorship Program event of 2024, hosted by For The Need for the 4th year of this program, Animal Day: Creating Connections provided a chance for kids of various ages to create connections with learning, games, and a chance to hold amazing reptiles from Retic Relic. On April 13, For The Need (FTN) set up this exciting event at the Simi Church Of Christ from 10-2pm brought to you by WM.

This event’s main purpose was to encourage all the families in the midst of difficult life situations, such as poverty, housing insecurity, or unstable living conditions to register their children to a multitude of summer camps, allowing their kids to have a week of fun and adventure. FTN successfully confirmed 18 sign-ups for the summer camps and counting, a step forward into making memorable experiences for the future generation.

The event was the largest FTN has hosted, a huge achievement with a total of 138 people attending including the volunteers. FTN sincerely thanks WM for not only sponsoring this event as they made a large contribution, but also providing time and effort helping these kids. Five WM employees volunteer with FTN, and the number will very much increase with time and more events.  FTN hosts events like this multiple times annually to educate and amuse kids in families dealing with difficult home-lives, providing a family and a community of mentors to come back to.

Lunch was provided from Red’s Barbeque, and families and kids all settled around while they interacted with each other and volunteers. The director of FTN, Allie Spaccarelli did a fantastic job providing experiences to the crowd of people. Spaccarelli shares, “I truly believe we created something here that will last not only in their hearts and their minds but physically, as we are here to stay.”

Myan Spaccarelli, the founder of FTN shares his sweet insight behind the impact this event brought, stating, “It’s amazing to be in front of a kid and see how receptive they are to input,” further sharing, “Once they feel safe, it is almost like you can see their shoulders drop from the release of pressure and stress, and they are so glad to be around people that are there for them,” referring to the lovely volunteers and employees of FTN.

FTN greatly appreciates the sponsors, supporters, and volunteers for aiding in forming beautiful memories for the kids. This newfound idea from FTN generated an impact within these families, not only building friendships between humanity, but helping children be authentically themselves in a welcoming place they can also call home.
