(P.Choudhary) – On June 8, For The Need Foundation (FTN) hosted an event at the Simi Valley YMCA as part of the Bow and Arrow Mentorship program to educate the younger generation of the complexities of stress. This event was graciously brought to you by WM and YMCA, to which For The Need shows gratitude for the generosity given, as well as the FTN volunteers who form a better community with the youth.
FTN has opened their arms to families of all kinds dealing with difficult life situations, such as housing insecurity or unstable living conditions, and events such as these allow FTN to teach the children in these families all sorts of lessons on navigating life. This event taught the youthful crowd all about the complexities of stress in one’s life, and how to overcome obstacles of stress through simple mental steps.
As the younger crowd splashed into the water and participated in a Safety Around Water lesson from the YMCA, this taught the kids swimming basics and encouraged them to overcome the fear of water with the amazing FTN and YMCA volunteers at their side. Director of FTN, Allie Spaccarelli shares, “It’s all worth it when I see the kids’ and volunteers’ smiles, as I know we’ve created a moment they will remember the rest of their lives,” showing how the children form bonds that will stand the test of time.
The younger kids partook in a small boat building competition, while the older age group engaged in an activity on building the best boat that can sail across the pool. This is the fourth year FTN incorporated police presence throughout the enjoyable day, and FTN is beyond grateful for their help in providing a safe and smoother event.
The lovely event ended, all the older teen girls and women took home a feminine hygiene bag from Volunteer Historian of FTN, Priyal Choudhary, in honor of her CSI Project. These hygiene bags allow women to empower themselves, instead of neglecting their body due to economic conflict they face.
