For The Need Teams Up with Ventura County Board of Supervisors for First 5 Read to Kids Event

(CLAIR) – This week, Dorina Timbol, Executive Director of For The Need, joined representatives from the Ventura County Board of Supervisors and other community leaders at a special breakfast to kick off the First 5 Ventura County Read to Kids event. The event is scheduled to take place on May 5th.

The goal is to promote reading for young children by having local leaders read stories to kids under 5 in both English and Spanish.

Timbol, who is fluent in Spanish, was invited to help read stories in Spanish. This event supports First 5 Ventura County’s work to help the 60,000 children in the county who are 5 years old or younger.

First 5 Ventura County (F5VC) is an organization that gets most of its funding from Proposition 10, a law passed in California in 1998. This law created a tobacco tax to help pay for programs that improve the health and education of children aged 5 and under.

F5VC supports programs that have been proven to help young kids and their families. The organization also talks to lawmakers and works with local businesses to help make sure kids get the support they need. F5VC also brings together different groups, businesses, and government agencies to make a positive impact on kids’ lives.

Their main message, “The First 5 Years Impact a Lifetime,” is based on research that shows how important it is to help kids during their first five years of life. This is when kids’ brains are growing the most, and it’s the best time to help them develop good habits for learning, behavior, and health.

Participating in The First 5 Ventura County Read to Kids event was Ventura County Community Liaison, Mike Kort and Celina Zacarias of Channel Islands University.
